Main Dealers not giving Trade Card discount?
« on: 23 October 2010, 11:06:50 »

hhhmmmm?

I've just spoken to my local main dealer who has informed me that as an individual, (as opposed to a registered company), I would not be eligiable for any discount even after I gave him my 6 digit Trade Card number.

Is this usual practice?

is this an Autobahnstormers card? If so I'd contact the club. If it's an individual account I'd contact Trade Club themselves. This is assuming that the dealer does participate in the scheme, not all do.  :y

I had this the other day.. I thought all vauxhall dealers would accept tc.. Not all do as I found out..

But to my surprise the Guy said "we don't participate in tc.. but no problem I'll give you trade price anyway"

Couldn't believe it - what a pleasant surprise!

It's the Autobahn Trade Card.

Two dealers close(ish) to me. One has just phoned back with prices that seem to be trade prices, (for most stuff), the other said no discount unless a proper garage / bodyshop. :(

Trade price and trade club price are different, you usually get a little bit extra of with TC  :y

I'm not sure who you need to sort it for you these days, but Dave Waddington might be a good place to start http://www.autobahnstormers.org/, IIRC it was him that sorted it out for me years ago when ABS first got the Trade Club.

Right, I've got a load of prices though from one of the dealers. Some of the prices seem quite reasonable, others quite expensive. Below are a list of the parts and the prices, (ex VAT). I'd be interested to know what you guys think, and what parts I can get cheaper elsewhere, (although for many parts I'd like to stay OEM)

Oil filter   = £3.23 (cheap)
Fuel filter = £6.74 (reasonable)
Auto box sump gaskets;
inner       = £5.83
outer      = £11.34 (again, both reasonable)
Auto box oil filter = £52.80! (bloody expensive!)
Rear brake pads = £43.20 (expensive)
Rear brake discs = £75.20 per pair (seems a bit steep)
Front discs and pads set = £80.15
Aux belt = £19.62 (seems a bit steep)
Cam belt kit inc pulley and tensioners = £109.43 (is that expensive?)
Water pump = £95.20 (seems very expensive)
Thermostat = £37.37 (expensive. even Land Rover main dealer ones are only £10)
Rocker cover gasket kit = £59.48 (from what I've read I'd only main genuine parts for that)
Hand brake shoes = £57.60 (seems expensive)
Breather = £74.38 (I thought I read on here that they were only £42?)
Oil, 10w/40 semi, 10 litres = £23.40 (very cheap)
Air filter = £9.92 (seems reasonable)
Pollen filter = £13.02

I've missed off stuff like the sump plug washers for gearbox and engine sump and they are only a few pence each.

Also I understand that the drain the diff fluid requires splitting the diff in two, as it is supposed to be sealed for life? So I'd need a new diff gasket as well.

Oil filter   = £3.23 (cheap)

This not not trade price , is this paper or spin on filter? Its just over a £1 each for spinny ones

Auto box oil filter = £52.80! (bloody expensive)

Contact jpat, he can do the filter and gasket for lot less than that

Cam belt kit inc pulley and tensioners = £109.43 (is that expensive?)

No about right

Water pump = £95.20 (seems very expensive)

They jumped from £30 odd to £65 odd recently, guess they have gone up again!

Oil, 10w/40 semi, 10 litres = £23.40 (very cheap)

Sory but this is VERY expensive, last time i got some on TC its £33 for 20L, as its buy 3 for price of 4 (5L bottles)

Prices sound about right, though they have charged you for OE rear pads, not TC ones. Which is best value is a source of debate though.

Oil, on TC, sound be around £35 for 20l (as its buy 3, get a 4th free)

Cheers.

i forgot to mention, I have been quoted £15.60 for spark plugs, (sounds ok), and a huge £205 for HT leads!

I've had a look on Demontweaks, but can't find a listing for the Magnecor leads. Anyone know how much they are or where to get them from?

my local dealer wont accept trade card from anyone, despite being in trade card book. they are part of a 'group' in the area. so i call their parent branch 20 miles away who WILL accept the trade card. they then drive the bits on their van to the original branch at cost to themselves. weird logic.

My local lot say that if the system accepts the ABS TC number, which it does, they will give the discount.   :)

The blurb I got from ABS said the mambership is in the name of David Waddinton and queries should go to

Modified - that info isn't for public internet forums, its for ABS to give to people themselves (which they do when they send out member packs)

i should point out that the dealer i use offers trade discount if trade club is not present on the price list, however, it still defies logic the way its shipped from one branch to another when theyre effectively the same company.
