Do diesel omegas generally run cold ish... Mine doesn't generally even reach 80ēC on the gauge.

I know the gauge can be a bit inaccurate, but that does seem low... oh and I have no fan fitted

In this weather mine sits at 85 and it has a new thermostat and the fan is still fitted ;)

Hmmm, I can't get above 45deg unless i really force it going up steep hills, then 80deg, after which it drops straight back to 45.
Took the stat out and put it in a pot of water and it opened and closed like a charm. So  back in it went. Heater also takes forever to warm up.

mine sits around the 80 mark somtimes less and I don't have a fan fitted.
I wouldn't worry to much unless it hits the other end of the scale. :y

minbe always ran cold till i put new w.pump(meatal impellor) and stat in cos i had never changed it, now runs at 91/2 and never gets above 95/6 even in the spanish heat(40plus) up hills with full throttle :y

The key question (now the weather has turned cold) is does your car take 'for ever' to produce warm air from the heating system?

My TD was really bad ... and I found it was caused by the thermostat being defective.

It was much improved by a replacement thermostat .. but is still slow to warm up compared to my wife's diesel Corolla.

Should be just under midpoint on gauge, if not, likely the stat is knackered.

Mine ran at around the 90 mark until I changed the 'stat.
Now sits just above mid point on the gauge (around 95/96 mark).
Replacement 'stat is genuine Vx :D

Yep. Often run cold. Watched a friend check out the actual temp on a BMW TD via tech 2 once, found the gauge was a couple of degrees out, 'under'. Plus it took aaaages to warm up to mid-point put did get there eventually. He just took in to account that the gauge ran a little under from then on.

Dangerous move, as those couple of degrees either side of midpoint on the gauge account for 20 degrees in reality ;)

Also, what was he monitoring to get the true temp?
