Help with an aux belt
« on: 03 November 2010, 18:32:33 »

:( My aux belt thought it would be as good idea to create a lot of smoke and try to set it's self alight today just after I had put £50 of fuel into the car ! Anyone nearby got one that they can fit ? The local stealer is about as useful as a chocolate fire guard at the moment.Looks like I won't be going to the Chester services on Sunday ! Thanks in advance folks

Aux belt on its own will not burst into flames .... it has to have friction  .....  Check the tensioner bearing as the likely source ... easy to change but your stealer will most likely try and get you to buy the whole unit .. when you only need the bearing wheel itself

The belt has melted parts of itself onto the plastic wheel on the top left as you look at it (tensioner?)
Thankfully I have a 'donor' car sat on my drive way that I borrowed a replacement from, just need to get a new belt sorted and fitted.
