Anybody know why the car would go into 'limp home' constantly, but still starts and runs every time ? normal dash lights come on and go out with ignition, stays out while cranking but comes back on as soon as it's running. Car will rev to 2500rpm but the turbo dont cut in (could be because it's in 'limp home' ?  Where do you start? any help appreciated.

Sorry, that won't work on your car. You need a code reader to show stored fault codes. If you update your profile with your location.
There may be one of the members here near enough you to do a reading for you.

HI knwwpad, new to this lark, I'm in Holbrooks in Coventry. I know the best way forward is to find out what codes are stored but the dealers want far too much. This is the first Omega that has driven me mad but i'm not used to diesel's, give me a 2.5 V6 any day.

There will  be someone near you with a code reader. They'll probably want a packet of biscuits or such like for doing it 

But take my advice and update your profile, your car and  your location will show up on the left then people who join the thread don't have to keep asking.

You could check hoses on and around the turbo charger. Look for hoses that have slipped off, that are split or have collapsd internally. Also look for any connectors that may have come adrift. Try disconnecting the MAF sensor and see if that makes  a difference.

Done all the obvious stuff, no pipes out of place, no connectors off, took them all out checked for corrosion and put back. losing no water and the oil is ok. all fuses in place and ok. I know quite a bit about cars as I've been in the industry for over 25 years but no good with diesels. (sorry I miss spelt yor nam earlier, it's my son's lap top, not used to it).

sounds like egr is stuck/dirty(normal on this engine) or poss injector seals but egr easier to check and clean first!!!
however 2.2dti is very susceptible to incorrect or split vacuum
pipes making it go into limp!!!so a very careful check of these wouldnt go amiss, as said you need codes read but the computer wil only tell you what it thinks is wrong not somtimes what is wrong!!!

Hi everybody, got the car sorted, when it was pluged in (thats all I asked for) they reaconed it was the air flow meter. Running fine now (£80 later). They said I need to change the turbo that will set me back £500, or the problem will come back, IS THIS FOR REAL If it's fixed and that was the real problem why would I need a new turbo?

Take the inlet piping off from the airbox to MAF to turbo (including the engine breather pipe) and clean out all of the oil that's accumlated in them. if you look under this pipework you usually notice a sludgy mess of oil dripping down onto the alternator.

The MAF is susceptable to damage from contamination such as oil.

If you get any further codes up, i'm not a million miles away and can read the codes off for you.

Impossible for leaky injector seals to cause the e.m.l. Also the car starts fine!?


May-be the garage are thinking the 'normal' build up of oil in the inlet pipes is caused by worn turbo seals, although I don't see how oil from the turbo would make it's way that far forward.
Does the car use an excessive amount of oil?

Never lost or used oil in the three and a half years I've had it other that the usual top after long journy (about 20ML).
I think I'll take everyones advise and make sure there is no build up of muck in the pipes and give the old girl a some new oil, just to be nice to her. Thanks eeryone for the help, much apreciated.

To anybody out there that may want to know, turned out to be the air flow meter playing up, had the meter reset and all OK now, once I got it on a code reader it only took half an hour.
