Multi rams
« on: 18 November 2010, 00:29:08 »

Jimbob suggested that my multi rams might not be working properly due to a huge surge in power under hard acceleration at 4100 rpm in my Elite(auto).

Will a paperclip test show any codes for this? Is there anything I can do to look after them? Cleaning or lubrication of some sort?

I thought this normal, even though my MV6 (manual) doesn't do it, as my old Senator (auto) did.

Thanks

A quirk of the auto box at that particular speed? :-/

That's what I thought it could've been but I looked at the working of the multi rams in the maintenance section and they operate at 4100 revs, and the MV6 had a much better life than the Elite when i got it so I suspect it's not entirely right.

It could also help explain my fuel consumption of low 19 mpg winter 20 mpg summer, hopefully! It still shifts but feels noticably flat compared to when it hits 4100 rpm then it just takes off!

Would suggest a multi ram (front?) is not working, as Jimbob says. Usually not connected or broken vac tank after removal of the intakes for cam belt or similar.

If cable throttle, give a very Italian blip on the throttle while watching the multi rams, it they don't move, usualy it's a vac supply issue, but make sure the electric plug is fitted also. The rear one on back of plenum takes a lot of revs to move and electric plug is often left off when re fitting the plenum, easy done.  ::)

Thanks for your advice! I've had the plenum off a few times so the rear one's ok! As for the front :-/ I've never even been anywhere near! I'll have a look, thanks!
