Good price??
« on: 16 January 2008, 19:32:33 »

Well took the beast for MoT on Friday, it failed. But only on windscreen and track rod end on the o/s so thats not too bad.
More interesting tho was an advisery for an oil leak. The mechanic said it was bad enough to notice but it wasn't dripping on him when he was under the car. Said it was collecting round the sump although the sump itself was fine.

Said he would have to take it apart to see which seal was leaking but would need the car for 2 days and said timing belt should be done to?!? Still got another 5k before its due.......and how much for this service???? £420  :'(

I haven't got that sort of money and being pretty useless at mechanics its not a job I fancy tackling. Is this a good price etc?

HELP  :-? :-?

check your rocker covers first......

mine has an oil leak and when underneath it looks like it is the sump, on further inspection you can see the oil run from the rockers all the way down

£420!!! is he having a bubble bath

Sounds like a reasonable test.  Screen would be seen by you before test, one track rod end is not disasterous.

The mechanic is guessing a little on the oil leak, perhaps, unless you have further info?  Could be a number of things, one of which could simply be a leaking oil filter......

An advisery is just that. Ask him to do what's needed for the MOT & leave the rest.
He's just trying to make some ££££ outa you. >:( >:( >:(
Next year go somewhere else for your MOT that maybe a friend can recommend.
Have your belt done else where too.
£420.00 seems ALOT to me :o :o :o
