now a bad oil leak!
« on: 19 November 2010, 12:40:31 »

ok,tuesday workin on the car and trying nto find my water leak at the rear of plenum so having a fercle but to  no avail so got in the car to drive off ,when i hit the duel carriageway hit 4000 nrevs and car would go just revs bounced from 3 to 4000 revs without going faster, checked codes got 19,cleared codes got 19,strange as i only just replaced the senser from vx,called them, happy to replace free of charge!today got in the car as i had to use it and in standing traffic oil smoke came from under bonnet and oil level warning came on screen.retraced my steps in the car and long lines of oil coming from where id just driven,i cant see any leaks and had the rocker gaskets done by elite pete 3500 miles ago.

so my questions are, could the rockers be leaking at the back of engine?
could the water leak and oil leak be off the oil cooler?
what is leaking oil??im bemused!!and very fed up!why do i not have eml light on?
any ideas from anyone please?!

Not much help but in my experience leaking cam covers would not leave long streaks of oil on the floor.

Is it oil filter tight, or oil cooler pipes cracked. Maybe even oil pressure switch.

Did you say you replaced your crank sensor as the first one was faulty? Is the seal in place and is it tight?

Sounds likely doesn't it - especially as it won't rev past 4K, I'm betting the crank sensor has come adrift simultaneously spewing oil and messing up it's signal due to proximity from what it's detecting..

Crank sensor spewing it's oil ? is it in oil as I thought it was dry inside, where the sensor sits?

I agree, when I changed mum's sensor her's was bone dry and I thought the O ring was to stop dust getting in.  :-/

i changed the sensor in june,it did have oil on the bottom end of the sensor then, dont know if it does now!ive taken the plug out the top end and checked it and put it back.but still the same!why would the sensor make it not rev above 4000?i think the oil was coming from the level senser, got new washer and done that, but why oil smoke?

did your dad use genuine vx cam cover seals really you could do with having a good look around the engine to see where the oil is comming from

I found an oil leak today which appears to be coming from the crankshaft sensor area . The sensor was changed not long ago .Is it possible to get an oil  leak from this area?
