Omega 16v 2.2 Auto HEAD GASKET
« on: 14 November 2010, 23:23:49 »

I've just picked up a lovely dark green metallic 2.2 auto with single point lpg fitted to it. Got nice alloys, full service history, new brakes, exhaust, lower arms ... the previous owner spared no expense by the looks of it.

The head gasket has gone, and my question is, what is the likelyhood that the head is no good on these engines? I've owned a 2.2 16 valve for 3 years and never had head gasket problems, so i'm assuming, if i get the head gasket done along with a few other small jobs like water pump and cam belt while it's stripped down, and get the head pressure tested and skimmed should i be ok in the long run keeping the car?

any thoughts would be appreciated.

It's normally poor coolant maintenance that causes these to fail. You won't know of any damage until the head is actually off. The favourite place for failure is the rear waterway to #4 piston. Will you be doing it yourself?

no, I work in the trade but im not a mechanic. I know plenty a couple of which have been vauxhall techs, and they havent let me down in the past. They've quoted me £200 plus i buy the bits an get the head tested / skimmed.
