Glass wanted
« on: 21 November 2010, 11:46:37 »

Thanx to some really sad t**t that broke all of my windows I need a rear heated screen ( the rear high level brake light is in a pod that butts up it and is not fixed to the screen) for my 1998 Elite saloon. It has aircon/climate control too.
Anyone able to help? Any advice on the door glass replacement would be helpful too. All of it is bust big time. Lucky (?) the windscreen is covered under my insurance, but there again what sort of luck is that?
Please someone have one for me. I have done too much work on this motor to have it written off by the insurance robbers!

rear window is bonded in bud, and due to it shattering into a million bits when it gets broke, I doubt anyone will be able to remove one whole for you, there should be plenty breakers on here with glass, as its probably the least used spare part from an omega.

good luck  :y

I've answered your other post in the parts section. I have a saloon I'm breaking if you want all of the glass out of that?

Have a look on egay. Had to get a rear screen for mine after it was driven into. Got a brand new gm one from a dealer for £125. The old ones can be cut out, with care and patience, then approx £60 for a windscreen firm to clean up and refit.

good luck.

Hmmm... Not sure if this would work but just a thought...

Make a glass claim on your insurance, pay the glass excess and have a professional firm do the lot :-/ ::)

Agreed, if all the glass is gone then it sounds like an insurance claim.... :(

hi bionic sorry to read about your windows , i would be carefull about claiming on your insurance because about 2yrs ago my rear quarter window got broke and because there was a chip in windscreen decided to get that done at same time on insurance  i ended up paying 2lots of glass excess because they said it was 2 claims even though they did both jobs together tony

Not sure that would be the case here as all done at the same time, not 2 separate incidents of glass damage but I agree, need to check with them before going ahead and claiming :y

Thanx everyone for the advice. I am pretty certain that glass insurance only covers the front windscreen though from what others have told me.
I did contact them immediately but their Sunday response centre took my details and said someone would contact me. Still waiting for that call! I doubt very much though whether I will make a claim or just leave it as a no cost information report with the Crime Number and say I am repairing it myself.
Apart from that there is also the fact that if all the glass is replaced under an insurance claim it might just cause the insurers to opt for writing the car off, drastically increase my future premiums, losing my NCB and then paying me a pittance. I have done far too much work on it, had others do the same and have spent too much to lose it that way!
The front screen I will put through as it is covered and I only pay the £75.00 excess.
I have ordered the side 3 from my usual Ebay site which is brilliant for the total of £48.00 inc 24 hr delivery. The rear screen I am trying to get a used one but have been quoted just under £200.00 with a guarantee/warranty for a new one inclusive fitted at my local AutoGlass. They will charge me £100.00 inclusive to fit a used one I supply but will offer no warranty or guarantee if they damage it putting it in.
A devil and the deep blue sea choice   :D
All I could do with now is a bit of knowhow to do the sides. Anyone done it before?  ;)
Got to get it done before the white stuff and wet arrives! One good thing I suppose (NOT) is that it using no petrol at the moment even if it is killing my knackered bionic legs  :'(
Hey Ho and away we go to get the glass cleaned up from the interior.  :'( Ain't life a bitch!!!!!
