2.2 16v misfire
« on: 21 November 2010, 20:52:36 »

hi guys and girls my 2.2 16v has tonite developed a misfire and the code reader is giving out code p0204 injector circuit open cylinder no 4. car has run fine until to day the camshaft sens needs replacing but thats not a prob and the cam cover gas needs doing. does this all point to dis pack that needs replacing or is it the same as V6 cam cover seal gone oil in plug wells.any other questions welcome as to car and all answers gratefully received. :)

Your most likey cause is that, oil has leaked and filled up the plug wells.

Pop the plugs out, its dead easy on the 2.2's - Check for oil or any water.

Whats the history on the cam sensor, its been changed? Was it for a genuine Vauxhall part?

2.2's have a coil pack which sits in the centre of an engine, if its miss-firing its certainly not going to do it any good.

First things first, check the plug wells for any oil, and drain it. Best to use rolled up kitchen paper towels (buy loads of them!)

You will want to do the cam cover at the same time, have a go yourself if you not too bad with tools, I did it and know sod all about engines, my guide is here:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225024176

Once that is done, see if it cures the miss-fire.

If your engine is going into limp mode, that does also point to an issue with cam sensor. (its a common failure on 2.2's)

Do you have any other codes stored?

Good stuff, 4pot cam cover is breeze compared to those buggers on the V6. If no other codes, this should hopefully fix the issue  :y

Expensive, when I replaced mine a couple of years ago it was around £100  :'(

Mine failed at about 110k miles, not sure why but could see signs of it being burnt externally, although i had no codes, it ran generally fine, just would sometimes 'judder' under load.

Don't go replacing that yet, get gaskets and any oil out and some fresh plugs, go from there. Even then, most likey cause is cam sensor  :y

Someone had a similar problem recently and I went up to look at it for him. Tried another dispack and it ran perfectly. Is anyone local to you with a Desmond (4 pot) you could borrow the dispack off to test?

Quite possible. Dodgy cam sensor won`t throw a code for any of the injectors. Have you checked for a feed to #4 inj
