Sincere apologies if these are common problems!
« on: 23 November 2010, 19:29:02 »

hello everyone!

Bought a 2000 (W) 3.0 Elite Auto (saloon) today to keep my workhorse 2.5 GLS Estate company! I love these cars, but need a little advice on the car I've just purchased; hope one or two of you guys can help.

1). The car had been standing for approx 4 months before I bought it today, and the battery had gone flat. Jump starting meant the vendor disconnecting the battery, thus losing the functionality of the Bose sound system. The code for same is not present in any of the manuals. How do I obtain it?

2). Presumably for the same inactivity reasons, the back-box is blowing slightly - roughly how much am I in for to replace same?

3). All the 17' alloys have been kerbed; anyone know of anyone reasonably local to Salisbury that refurbs these without charging a total fortune?

I want to keep the car up together, but can't afford to maintain it regardless of expense.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks all.....

Ian

1) Carpass
2) Eternal Car on Ebay
3) Know a place in South Bucks, too far for you.

Hello, double check your manuals, wallet etc again. There should've been a little credit card sized 'car pass' with radio code and other things on. You never know it could be written down in manual somewhere? This happened to me once!

I think if you can't find it, I have heard you can go to Vx and get the code, but they charge of course!

Thanks all for responses so far. GeoffR, yes, I've been right through the manuals provided, and seen no pencil notations anywhere! I definitely don't have the fabled CarPass in the wallet. Do I just rock up to my local Vaux dealer (Approach, Salisbury) with the log book? Is that all that's required?

regarding the wheels, it would prob cost the same to refurb them as it would to replace them with ones in better nick from a scrapped car.

about 250-300 for a decent set with tyres for the f/l elite wheels i think, so without tyres would be cheaper

AFAIK yes, that's what I would do, probably take photo ID aswell, you know what it's like now!

I've got my car pass, but I never need to enter code after battery disconnection, it just comes back on itself

Yeah, was wondering this myself, VauxFan. Are the 17' F/L alloys unique to the MV6 and the Elite in reasonable second-hand supply?

Just been out to inspect them again by torchlight - think one of the previous owners might have been Ming the Merciless... ;D

See there are quite a few refurb companies on t'interweb - anyone have any experience of them?

P.S - just AMAZED at the amount of activity on this site! Think I might stick around!  :)
