I think the big man is trying to tell me something
« on: 15 January 2008, 08:19:02 »

At the moment, I have for the pleasure of my wifes 306 to drive every day. The problem with small cars is that I tend to drive them like a tit because they fly around corners. The only points that I've ever had from driving a car was because I was in a Ford Ka  :-[.

Anyway, last night, I had to get home for 7pm to look after the kids as the wife was going out, but I had to fill up with Diesel first, so I popped in to Tesco by the Richo Stadium in Coventry and zipped back out again.
On the way to the M6, which isn't far, I was doing about 60mph in a 50 zone  ::) and I thought that I was being raced by a hot hatch, so I didn't slow much for the approaching island. The car next to me turned out to be an unmarked plod-car. I was very embarrased because I really don't drive like that in the Meega. I was let off with a warning to slow down...thankfully.

Then this morning, on the M42, a car had crashed due to aquaplaning (I am guessing) in EXACTLY the same place where I nearly crashed because of aquaplaning 6 months ago...I was lucky and didn't crash. When I passed the crashed car at about 30mph, I was virtually floating down the motorway. Lots of surface water.

Finally, after leaving the gym, on the way to work, I was going down the sliproad from the A45 on to the A46 at about 60mph (70mph zone) when the car I was slipping-in behind decided that he wanted to slow down in a hurry. But guess what...no brake lights. I nearly ploughed in to the back of him at 60mph. To be honest, I still don't know how I missed him.

So, after these three incidents, I have decided to go home tonight at a VERY sedate pace.

Keep safe everyone  :y.

Yeah, a lot of people don't have good lights around here, or like to slow down drastically by downshifting without giving at least a courtesy flash of the brake lights.  (There is a reason that you have to touch the brake pedal every time that you slow down in order to pass the driving test!)  And then they think you're reckless for running up close to their rear bumper!  ::)

I am constantly amazed by how many people in the UK can't drive in the rain.  The place is kinda famous for it after all!  ;)

Yep. The slightest deviation from ideal driving conditions and it becomes obvious that a significant proportion of drivers have no confidence. The result of a decade of preaching "speed kills, nothing else matters".

The state of our roads doesn't help, either. I passed two floods this morning where the locals were trying to clear out drainage gulleys to protect their property. Only council contractors I passed had parked a large truck on a dangerous bend, facing the oncoming traffic with main beams on, and appeared to be busy having a fag break. >:(

I don't think we're on our own  ;). One evening driving to Disneyland from our appartment - about 7 or 8 miles we saw the remains of 6 crashes that'd just or not long happened. On the bend of a slip road that clearly said 30 mph a SUV had managed to turn turtle & face the wrong way on the 'median.' All due to the torrential rain.

Try to drive in Riga when its raining or snowing......you`ll need a very good doctor after 2 or more hours in traffic jams where it usually takes about 1 hour:(

 >:(Was'nt going to bother but in light of this post, coming home from work today approaching a fork (right of way to right) in Immingham, a red Cav (driven by a virgin trying to impress his girlfriend...probably) came straight out from my left between the Old Bill Shop & the County Hotel in front of me. I swung to the left & anchored up, ABS works, cock in cav kept going,  bloke in silver Fiesta behind who also had to anchor up so as not to hit my Mig. Immingham's a small town & my house & car are on a well used junction so if cock in cav or his friends are looking on here you'll know where i am, i invite you to call & "discuss the matter further" >:( >:( >:(RANT RANT RANT >:( >:(

Everybody drives too bloody close these days. Back off, use your mirrors, check your blind spots and you shouldn't go far wrong.
