hi all   i have a  burning oil  smell inside the cabin area ?

  ive lifted bonnet and can only see a small oil leak on top end of drivers side of the engine  i assume it ( when driving along ) is trickerling down to the manifold and burning off and the smell  getting into the cabin area ??  if it is the rocker cover gasket ?? how easy is it to do  ( bearing in mind i dont do motors ) just love driving my omega

If its an oil smell, its likely it is from the engine.

If you have a known leak, thats the first thing to fix!

Smell of burning what? Burning oil is quite possible. ESP if it's the pas side bank that has the oil leak as the pollen filter and air inlet to the cabin is right behind at the base of the windscreen.

Had exactly the same on mine. Smell of burnt oil in cabin. Especially when idling or when parking in the garage when the fumes didnt blow away. Changed the rocker cover gaskets and problem dissapeared.

How long is a piece of string!

It can take anything between 2 and 4 hours approx., dependant on your skill levels.  It will cost about £75 if, as I assume, you do not have a trade card.

If you are an absolute beginer, not knowing about, or even having, the tools, coupled with lacking confindence, then there are some very good mobile mechanics on here who will do the job for you at a fair price

If I was a cynic I'd say Vx built this particular trait in to their design in order to stiff us all for genuine gaskets, but only if I was a cynic!

hi all     my problem  will get looked at today  but they are now telling me it might be head gasget     as ive said before i dont touch  cars  just love driving them ?
 i now assume this to be a lot more expensive and bigger job    anybody had one done recentley and cost    im being told  later tonight >?

Paul, don't go within a million miles of that garage!, they either don't know their a*se from their elbow or they do & are trying to part you from your hard earned!
As Lizzie said earlier, there are excellent guys on here who will travel to fix your problem & charge you a VERY fair price & do a 1st Class job into the bargain, they are worth their weight in Gold and more importantly, they can be trusted!!

totally agree which garage was it just name and shame i have used a few always shop around

Same here, head gasket would be the last thing on my mind in this case.
Get a second opinion. You would do well to follow advice given by Philrich.

Heed the warning mate it happend to me and i parted with hard earned wonga and job still not done just other parts damaged the job had to be redone so i just said enough is enough, so i let darth loo knee do mine and a fantastic job he made of it too
