hi guys i posted a shout for help yesterday about my auto box today its another shout for help i was checking the underside of the car for oil as i have just changed rocker cover gasket and not sure if its still leaking. i had the engine running at the time but then all of a sudden the gear box light cam on and it started amking a really loud banging noise. the engine started running really rough and it hardly manages to idle. not sure what to do i havent checked the oil level in it would it be worth topping up the oil or not as if i need a new gear box i dont wanna sepnd more money on changing the oil as it can go towards the new box pleaseeeee help

Yes, I would check the fluid level.
Do the lights along the gear selector
work as they should when you select
different gears?

erm well kinda yea what happend is i had a short circuit in the ashtray which some how blew the headlight switch which i havent yet replaced. when the healdight switch is off it does show the lights when on it does not. im hoping its the fluid but its never done this before. :S

Might be a silly ?? but does the car select D and move, Even if the g/box went the fluid flywheel would still allow the engine to run as normal.
Select each gear in turn and hold it there for 30 seconds to see if the gearbox noise changes, do this twice

it selects d fine and all the others and drives too not soo good its reallly running rough sorta like its miss firing but the cars telling me to check gearbox ;s and theres a loud knocking noise coming from the gear box.

oooook so ........ i tried putting it in gear it feels like chitty chitty bang bang the engine feels rought the cars squeeks wen i put it in gear not so much knocking now though but wen i put it in gear the juddering gets worse and the car shakes loads :S any ideas lol

Autobox uses oil to transfer power and has very few parts if any that would cause a knocking sound. The gearbox light is telling you there is an electrical issue with one of the gearbox inputs/outputs. The car may now be in limp mode to prevent damage to the box. Not sure if you can read gearbox fault codes with a cheat, sorry

thanks ill try some more oil tomorrow and if that dosent work ill pop it to a garage this is a bit outa my depth but thanks for ya help guys and cheers john much appreciated

No code reading cheats for the 2.2, a code reader is required.

I'd check the fluid level as soon as possible.

The dirty selector switch is a common fault with the Omega ar25 and ar35 auto boxes that is why in my first post I asked about your gear selector lights.
The fault is accompanied by the lights flashing randomly or coming on all at once.

There is a guide to repairing this in the maintenance section.

thanks kneepad much appreciated she started fine this morning and then drove fine :S think it could be oil im hoping lol just how to find the drain plug :S

hi guys just updating the oil level the level didnt seem too bad so i topped her up now shes running ok  but the light still tends to come on now and then but she still drives fine gearbox sounds good. topping her up hasnt made much difference to the drive but has deffinitley solved the noises. i think the next step is to have the faults cleared and read.
