Spray Paint to touch up star silver
« on: 13 December 2010, 22:05:19 »

At least I think it is star silver. Z 147?

Anyway, I had 8 mins to spare while I was in England collecting the project car and shot into Halfords for a spray tin or two. I came out empty handed. "Mixed to order only and needs lacquer after spraying."

Is it something you can order from a VX/Opel dealer?

I realise that the result will never be as good as a professional job but don't mind.

Ive always found Halfords paint to be a crap match, so you might have had a lucky escape. Better going to a local refinishing factors and getting them to mix an aerosol up for you. And you will need lacquer as well.

It is something you can order from a VX dealer. I went in and bought some Z20R (black sapphire). They had that in stock, I would suspect most dealers would have Z147 in aswell at it's fairly common.
I think it came to £11 or so with the VAT. That was for a can of the paint and the laquer that came with it. I've also bought nocturno blue and moroccan red, all very good colour matches.

i'm in the same boat but any profi paint shop should be able to mix you up a can and then it's all about how you apply it, the one thing i think is important is the scrubbing down between base coat and clear coat as all that what you've sprayed in the air has to settle somewhere! but for me anyway is if you have a good paintshop neaerby they should be able to get it right, although for my colour they had 3 different variations i don't know why but after the second time it was all good i don't know how much it trust pre mixes as i have never had a good matck from them hope this helps just my experiences though!

will have a look at what needs dooing when i get over there for the brake pipe Varche, pretty sure i can get the paint if we have the chassis number and paint code, the last two, a honda and a merc coupe, were both perfect colour maytches with the water based paints they sell no, but again you do have to laquer them,
as the paint aone dries to a verey matt sheen, then the clear brings it all out to perfection

AndyC. -excellent thanks very much. Can you believe different part Nos VX to Opel!

O'Toy If I decide to scrap the lovely red car(all it needs is another 2.5V6 engine) then we will be down to one so won't be able to spare it even for a day. I know it is heresy but really the car isn't worth spending much on improving its looks. A bit of teenager gobber, davids Isopon, spray tin or two and some sandpaper ........... ::) ::)

Their Wolverhampton branch is just around the corner from me, I have a friend who sprays semi-professionally and I often pop in to Jawel's for him, they always provide a professional service.
