What's the script with these handbrake shoe retaining pins? How can they be so much more difficult than ordinary rear drum brake shoes to do?   :-/ :-/

No idea Andy. In the end I had to cut a couple of coils out of one of the springs and modify a cheap pair of needle-nosed pliers quite severely with an angle grinder to do the job, and even then, even as drum brakes go, it was a very unpleasent job!

You can go right of folk you know. Two minutes to do your handbrake shoe spring? Dam job took me two bloody days just to get the caps over the springs!   >:(

Lol! I know what you mean V6 CDX-er, My first attempt with the springs on one side only took me an hour and a half just to suss it out to some extent as I was practising while waiting for the shoes to be delivered, so the day they came I was sort of ready for it so tackled that job first to get it out of the way, so was over the moon finding this method and now Andy B will be able to do his first ever brake change with relative ease lol!

I never said that!  ;) I've done loads of brake shoes & pads, just never had the need to see the handbrake shoes on my Senators or Omega - that's what P is for  ::) ::). I had a drum off my Astra the other week when I had a bleed nipple shear.

I was meaning your first hanbrake shoes change Andy, lol, you know you want to now you know of an easy way lol!Or think of it this way, its probably the only job you havent done on an Omega........ yet, lol!

I can't see that tool fitting through the little access hole in the wheel flange :-?

I think IAD has had a flash of genius. The screw bit holder has a little magnet in it which will serve to hold the slotted washer.

I did mine by pushing in the slotted washer using the extension bar from a 1/4" socket set. It would have been so much easier if it had been magnetic (or if I had another hand  ::))

It would still have to go through the hole in the hub/flange even though the drum is off.   ;)
