Boot on my Omega Estate suddenly wont open anymore
« on: 17 December 2010, 23:55:18 »

Hi chaps

this has never happened to me before, have been moving house the last 2 weeks, backwards and forwards every day in my car, obviously the boot has been in constant use most days,  today i loaded stuff in it, came back outside 6 hours later and the boot will not open, so i tried locking and unlocking 5 times with the key fob, everything locks and unlocks, apart from the boot!  >:( >:(
course, the missus is going friggin mental at me!
so, i tried using the key and still no joy whatsoever, why would this suddenly stop working?
and before you ask, no its NOT frozen, ive checked, when i stick the key in the boot lock itself and turn it, theres some whirring noise going on but it still wont unlock

Aaarrgghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :-?

That proves the lock is not frozen but maybe the rubber seals around the boot have frozen to the metal boot lid...

This happened to me this morning ASDA shopping. Rubber seal was stuck fast.. Used a bottle of her spring water (cold) poured it all round the edge of the boot lid and waited a few seconds then all was ok.
Hope this helps  :)

De-icer might be best, then use cold water to rinse that off the paintwork.

after you manage to open it grease your rubber seals with some glycerine or any other grease :).. this will prevent any future problems

You can work the mechanism manually but you need to remove the trim from the tailgate first, unfortunately this will mean damaging it if you cant open the boot.
If you need a replacement trim then I have one from this vehicle for a fiver...

The car has been weighed in but I still have the tailgate if you need any other spares for the lock assembly.

I had a problem like this on my saloon a few years back and it worked out to be the boot lock latch. On mine it had a black plastic piece that covers the metal catch and it had broken up and was sticking in the lock. It was a right pain cause i can't even drop the seats to get at it that way. Not checked the estate to see what that lock looks like but i think if you get in the back and remover the carpet bit on the bottom of the door you mite be able to see whats going on better also if it is the central locking motor thats duff on it then you can just unhook it and then it should unlock.  Hope this helps mate if i was closer i would have give you a lift to get it open. :y

If it's the latch assembly you might find it's the same as the one on the saloon. You need to get it off anyway so have a look and see if theres a part number on it, if there is post the number up here and somebody will confirm whether it's the same or not   ;)
