Just had a long chat with my insurance company about the accident

I've been assured that it will definately be a non fault and they will recover all the costs from her insurance company

Baylis Haynes and Strange will be doing the repair once liability is agreed

Now - my company didn't say a dickie bird about the LPG. Which is a relief.

Only question will be, my LPG filler is fitted in the bumper. Should I remove it before taking it for repair, and leave a hole - and then fit it myself to a new bumper, or should I  let Baylis worry about re-mounting it etc?

(Given that they will probs want re-certification afterwards).

humm tough call. I take it you never informed your insurance company it was LPG?

The hole would make it suspecious, i suspect just leave it on? The repair shop will repair it and just submit a bill to the insurance company.

Unless you can find a nackered facelift silver bumper someware and put that on before you take it here!

Insurance know about the LPG.

It's declared on the certificate as "LPGA" approved installer (although they've never wanted a certificate).

I've been lax, and not yet had it certified  

TBH, if liability is admitted, and all bills are going to HER insurance co, I very much doubt mine would have any involvement / interest once liability is admitted and I'm dealing with her insurers  :-/

Ask them when you take it for repair. With a bit of luck you'll walk out with a colour coded filler in the new bumper and the system (re-)certified...

Good point. Should I say -  "I could get an installer to remove / refit the filler if needsbe?"

Or shall I just tell them it has a gas filler, and that they'll have to deal with it?  

If I had a second chance, I would mount the filler higher, to make filling easier

if its on the insurance certificate as LPG your sorted then, let the bodyshop take care of it.

If the filler cap for LPG has to be fitted by an LPG installer, then thats their problem, they can get it sorted.

They should not need you to provide a certificate.

Remember the third party are at fault and it's down to them to leave you in the same position you were in before the accident. So, the filler needs to be mounted in the new bumper and hunky-dory. It may be that the repairer will want an LPG specialist to do that, maybe not, but whatever it takes it's down to the third party to pay for it.

Directline have told me that Baylis will do the assessment, and any costs will go to her insurers  :-/

I don't really see a problem here... if you go yourself to a garage and get a quote for the repair, they will either get a quote themselves for the LPG work involved by third party and will give yopu a cost estimate that includes removing/refitting the LPG filler by said third party.

If the garage will not quote for the LPG work (and I suspect Vx dealers won't), then you could get a separate quote from an LPG installer for this part of the work.

Either way, you submit your own quote to the other party's insurance company, and tell them that's the cost... they will then send an estimator to check your car and he will approve all or part of the cost you have been quoted for.

On another note, my advice is that not to try anything funny with insurance companies (not that you would). They have various ways if knowing when someone is not being truthful with them when claiming, and if they tick you as a potential fraudster then you will have an uphill struggle with them every inch of the way....

The point is that professional fraudsters know how to work the system and get away with it, but normal law-abiding citizens do not have a chance against an insurance company on have-a-go basis.

Sorry if it sounds like I was suggesting you are a fraudster  , this is obviously not the case, I guess I was just using this opportunity to post this... I have two friends who are involved in the insurance business so I get a bit of behind-the-scenes info.

Trying to present them with a cost that you did not incur, or increase the value of the damage. Also, keep in mind that they are recording your calls, you don't want to go on record as having said two different things on two different conversations.
