Sunroof - opening manually with screwdriver??
« on: 26 January 2011, 10:09:37 »

problem: Sunroof will not open at all. Fuse checked ok, motor seems to be whirring ok, but no movement to open. I have tried the reset procedure several times..no luck. I have had motor out and cleaned the small black disc inside as suggested. Still no luck. I have even swopped motors and exactly same result. If I try to open roof manually, using the screwdriver slot , which way shopuld I turn the screwdriver (clockwise or anti-clockwise) as I do not want to force or break anything?  Any suggestions on what could be the root cause problem?  cheers

One way to tilt, opposite way to slide back. You asked this question and got the answer in August last year ::)

Thanks Rob...I couldn't find my original posting on this subject. It's just that I have tried to turn it manually with a large solid flat screwdriver and could not budge the sun roof at all and I didn't want to put too much pressure whilst turning. I will try again using cordless power drill with appropriate screwdriver attachment.

Do you think it could be something more serious than just being lack of grease  etc??

It should open easily enough with the standard Vauxhall screwdriver, if not, you may have something jammed.

I suspect the roof has 'stuck' itself closed.

Get someone to operate the screwdriver as you bang quite heavily (The glass is quite resilient) with your fist around the sunroof glass (from the inside and outside of the car).
