Testing fan switch
« on: 29 January 2011, 11:36:39 »

Hi,

Is there any way of testing the fan switch in situ in the rad?  I dont have a socket / spanner big enough to remove it and currently have no transport :(

Thanks

The fans work when I bridge the plug.

Will this test the plug or the switch in the radiator?

It tests that the fans do actually work. You now need to know whether the temp switch on the rad it switching when it gets hot. IIRC I used a big adjustable spanner to remove my rad switches when I swapped radiators.

I know the fans work, but not so sure on the switch.  I am assuming its just the top switch and not the one near the bottom of the radiator as well?

As in the primary and not the secondary, or am I going to have to replace both?  If so, can they be done on the car without removing everything again?

why don't you try driving it with the fan bridged and see if you still have cooling problems if you don't then you can 99% say that the switch is involved and therefore can buy the tool to replace it.

just read this in the electrics section may be of interest to you
