Some annoyances with my Omega
« on: 30 January 2011, 21:30:22 »

Recently bought a 3.2 Elite and these are not faults but things that I have found annoying like:

- Boot can only be opened with keys out of the ignition.

- Heating system: don't know if this is a fault on my car but when I have a car full of passengers and the windows start to mist up even with the a/c on (admittedly it does need a recharge) but when I press the air circulation button on and then off again it clears it up. Its got auto air circulation but I drive with it completely off (if that makes any difference).

- Memory setting doesnt seem to work. I set it up as per manual ie. simultaneously press 'M' with '1'. I changed the seating position and wanted to revert back to setting 1 and that didn't work so I guess I didnt set it up properly or it doesnt work.

The recirc thing sounds familiar - I seem to recall reading a post that stated that; if the battery voltage dropped below a threshold when cranking the engine, the recirc flap position would become 'confused' and stuck on recirculate (regardless of the controls) until you cycle it on/off again so the a/c controls can figure out what position everything should be in..

ISTR it was 9v and there was a fix in the form of later a/c firmware? Unless I dreamt that part..

As for the boot release, have a look at this brilliant upgrade:-

Boot release can be fixed with hilpers boot mod, what age is your Elite??

Early facelifts it was not possible to pop the boot, mid late 2001/early 2002 though it was fixed, press and hold to release the boot  :y

As regards the steaming issue, you're quite right.

I would suggest two things,
-Check in your pollen filter (thats passenger side, in a lift-up flap in the black plastic scuttle) for signs of damp, and that at the very bottom it may have become clogged up with leaves / sludge.

-i have had good results with having the sunroof open a tiny crack, this allows the damp air from sweat, breath, etc) to escape. The screen does seem to clear and stay clear.

Mine was registered July 2001 so hope it has been fixed. Thanks for that link, will give it a go if it hasnt been sorted.

Re: the dampness, I did check the passenger drain and it looked clear. If the voltage dropped below 9v, does that mean a new battery may be required?

Well I had a look to see if the boot would open if I kept the button pushed down and it didn't open so before I go ahead with the mod, are there any side effects? I read on another thread that the courtesy lights stay on longer. I also read the disclaimer on the linked thread which I dont understand. There will be no delay ie. push the button on the dash/key and it opens instantly? How can you accidently pop the boot that way?

Thanks

You are right about the side effects. The light will stay on for ten seconds or whatever, which can be annoying in the dark. I fitted a "by-pass" using a redundant TrafficMaster switch, which is used to instantly turn off the interior light.   :y

I know what you mean about accidentally opening the boot, not a likely situation in my opinion.
