I tweaked my one to work on the 2m amateur radio band and it gave me what amounted to a very slow internet connection at home via packet radio - in 1986.

More now, they used to be handy, now thay can be a pain, from a work point of view, there is no escape. Got into trouble recently cos I had turned my phone off, I had not I was just out in the wilds, no signal and the boss knew where I was. There is no escape!!!!
