99 2.5 estate rear wheel bearing
« on: 18 February 2011, 22:27:08 »

the off side rear wheel bearing has gone  on my estate
questions

1. how easy/hard is it to change can't find anything in the common issues.

2. if i bought a new rear hub is the bearing included in the hub assembly ?

1... For some reason ISTR that it's a pig ::)

2... Should be a complete assembly, so yes :y

Don't forget that if you replace the complete hub you'll probably need alignment done ;)

Hi
Some rear wheel bearings come out relatively easily, mine wasn't one of them.  It was a pig.  I have a 10 ton hydraulic puller and that was not enough, it got the bearing so far and then it stuck again.  I had to make up a mechanical screw pusher to use with the hydraulic puller and the two together just about did the job.  The new bearing went in with much less bother.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

trust me i have just had the geometry done at nigel  lang's,

i don't have access to any sort of press so i take it it's not a diy job, if i bought this
http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/VAUXHALL_OMEGA_SALOON_REAR_HUB_-_5_Stud_-_90498568N.html

am i right in thinking i could remove the old hub and replace it with the above or is that just to easy to be true ???

it's easy in theory, but requires much physical effort.

1 remove driveshaft
2 undo drive-flange nut
3 push out drive flange
4 push out bearing

the pushing part invariably requires the semi-trailing arm to be removed and put on a large press.

Having done a few now, I wouldn't even attempt without taking the whole lot off and pushing in the bearing on a bench-press.

Unsure if much difference between saloon/estate,but garage that did mine said it required a serious ammount of pressure from their workshop press,so would suggest its a garage job tbh.

Had my MV6 Estate done last year, failed Mot on it, thats all, tax was out next day so couldn't afford to have the car lying around with no tax, there like vultures round here, so left it with the tester for a day or two to sort out the bearing, £107 all in inc Vat.
