Afternoon folks. 

Two problems to solve on the 2.0 ('96, saloon). 

Rear section blowing at the join to the centre section, and at the weld where the pipe goes into the rear silencer.  That's been getting steadily louder over the last year since it was mentioned/advisoried at the last MOT. 

New problem this week; the flexi just upstream of the cat has failed, and that really is starting to be loud.

Thinking of taking it to Weston Garage just off the A34 in Oxon, as it's near where I work, and I've read good things about them online. 

All I want to know is what do you reckon they might quote me for replacing rear box, and flexi.  AFAIK there's not a thing wrong with the cat itself or the middle section. 

TIA for any shock-reducing (gu)estimates.   Also, anyone with experience of Weston Garage?

Flexi is about £15, the down pipe will need to be removed and old flexi cut off.

Cat back exhaust will be around £120+vat from Eternal, you could buy it, and give them beer vouchers for fitting....

Hmm, I thought it doubtful that the flexi could be removed/replaced in situ.  I know nothing about welding though, so wasn't sure.

Its dead easy, just two bolts where the exhaust joins the down pipe (these are studs so just need to be loosened)

Just drop the entire exhaust if yours is nackered 

There is a guide, think Rob might have made it? It lists the part I've been using. Quality does vary, make sure you don't have it any longer than usual, as I've found adding extra length can make the exhaust centre box(s) rattle against subframe.

Thanks for the input Rob, that's encouraging.

I know the downpipe will come off the manifold OK, it's 4 bolts on a 2.0, but they're all newish and copperslipped, twenty months on from HG job they should still come out fine.

But if the welding can be done without removal, that would save a bit of labour time.

I think the 2.2 must be much easier than the 2.0.  I'd take at least an hour, even though it's only 4 bolts, access is 'orrible!

Can't comment on 2.0, but I got a lot of extension bars, my 1/2 ratchet for some extra power, they only needed to be slackened off. Car was on an axel stand, I found access ok.

Its worth soaking the bolts in WD40 (yes i know its not a penetrating oil) for a few days before, does help

Same exhaust apart from the "Y" piece to accept the second centre box (which ain`t bloody needed)

Confused by that Rob.  My downpipe to manifold flange is definitely 4 bolts. I've had them out and in twice!

Maybe a pre-facelift/facelift change?  :-/
