OOF Mechanics - mobile or fixed
« on: 21 February 2011, 13:00:27 »

Hi there,

Although this amazing forum has helped me to fix most of the nagging problems with my car, there are a few things I don't have the tools/expertise/patience/facilities to get done.

I live in a flat with no off-street parking so all but the smallest jobs are a bit of a problem, therefore I am happy to visit someone with a workshop/garage etc and would rather give my money to one of our community than a dealer or backstreet garage that hasn't got a clue about Omegas.

I have a 1995 Automatic 2.5TD with the following things that need doing :

  • Radiator Change and through flush of cooling system, maybe with pressure check - hopefully this will stop the minor overheating issues I have. (I have the new radiator, hopefully it's not a cracked head)
  • Replace inlet manifold gaskets and clean out manifold and charge air pipe etc to cure oil leak (I have the new gaskets)
  • Change Glow plugs whilst Manifold is off (I can get these)
  • Change ATF and filters (I could get these bits)
  • Airbag light needs resetting and finding out why it came on in the first place
  • What I assume is the valve lifters make an awful racket - are these easy to clean whilst we are there?
  • Change fuel filter and flush with Diesel Magic (I can get these bits)
  • General look over to see if I'm missing anything obvious or have got used to something bad without realising
  • Re-circulate flap doesn't work, probably something simple, but I can't find the fault!
I live in Essex, but am happy to travel, I'm self-employed so it doesn't have to be weekends and regularly travel up to Lancaster if that passes anyone? I can help do the jobs, but would really like an expert there as everytime I try to fix something small I end up breaking something big!

Anyone fancy it?

Thanks in advance,

Pete.

My suggestions is to drop Daz....Low-knees or what ever he is now called.

He is the resident Omega Wizard and he comes highly recommended by many members on OOF,including myself.

I understand he has some form of premises to work on cars and lives in or around Stoke on Trent.

That would be your safest option imho

Yes, I was thinking of Elite Pete. He's near Chester, does a lot of Omega work, and has a TD.

Not seen his work personally, but seems well regarded on here, and is a nice bloke.

As other have said, Darth Loo-knee, but think he tends to stick to Petrols. And Welung666 is offline for a little while, depends on timescales I guess.
