Mine has failed and reports low coolant all the time now. I have checked wiring etc and the golf ball is free and floats to top ok.

Is it possible to repair these, can you get to the level switch if tank removed?

the level sensor is integral to the tank, a shiney new tank is the way to go.

I've literally just taken mine off...  to find my second hand one (which I cleaned up amazingly) doesn't have the sensor...

So there's no way to remove the sensor from my current one and use it on the new tank?

I had a prod but didn't want to break it...

My sensor failed, just took a paperclip, cut it to size and stuck it in the sensor lead underneath the coolant tank, wrapped electical tape around it to keep it in place. Works a treat as no more Check Coolant Level warning on dash. I check the levels every weekend, plus money is a bit tight at the moment. Could not justify spending 30 quid on a new one, might get around to buying one later.

I would like to direct the topic back to the coolant level sensor.

Coolant level warning popped up to the LCD screen week ago and I was surprised about this event(coolant tank replaced 2 years ago with brand new one).

Closer inspection revelaed that the golf ball is floating loose in the tank. Tried to stick back to arount the plastic molding, but no luck. I have nerver heard that the golf ball becomes loose in side the the tank.

Any experience to fix it?

The sensor is a reed switch and magnet I believe.  From what you are describing, it must make the switch when at its upper limit and open if it drops below rather than vv.
The whole assembly is finished by melting plastic so unless you want to go very DIY, a new header tank is the way to go.  I tried a tested s/hand part and it lasted a few days. 15GBP down the pan.

I now use the shorted-out connector method and use my eyes as all good drivers should.
