Power Steering Pump Noise? 3.0 Elite.
« on: 05 March 2011, 11:04:56 »

Changed auxilliary belt tensioner pulley yesterday to stop whining noise, still noisy.   Could it be power steering pump?   Rotated wheel with engine running and the "tone"of the noise changed a little.   Any ideas?   Thanks.

The tone changed cos you were loading up the steering pump and is quite normal.
A whine from the front of the engine could be, steering pump, alternator, water pump or air conditioning compressor.  If I was to guess ....  :-/ I'd go for the alternator front bearing - I'm sure there's a guide on stripping it down  :-/, I know the bearing sizes are shown  :y :y :y

Check the power steering fluid because if it's low it will whine a lot

Thanks for replies.  If it were alternator bearing noise, where could I locate replacement ones?   And are they easy to change?

Local engineering suppliers will be able to supply the bearing for a few quid each.
It depends what you call easy. All jobs are easy if you know how to do them & have the correct tools!  ;) ;) ;) Without knowing your spannering ability  .................  ;) ;) ;) ;)
