Accellerator cable
« on: 05 March 2011, 17:36:15 »

went to begin stripping engine and tried to disconnect cable from ball joint at throttle houssing, as manual instructs.

It says to undo retaining clip.  Could not ID.  Does anyone know if it is the small wire found wound around near the small ball.  If so I am finding it help hard to remove.

All help will be appreciated. :y

difficult to put into words. There's a wire clip that wraps around the back of the ball. The end that you can see swivels round then the clip slides out parallel with the cable.

Rob G will find a picture ............ he's good at that kind of thing!  ::) ::) ;) ;)

Great and thanks Rob. I could not see protrusion, as in pic.  Maybe it was on the underside.  Will let you know what I find. :y

I've had a quick look and it seems the loop appearing in the picture has either broken off or been removed.  I believe it to be the former as I can't see who in their right mind would remove it.

So does this mean thats finally it then  or must I cut cable, which I do not even want to go down that road as it means it is going to be even more unnecesssary work and that also leaves the problem of the ball still being on the throttle housing.  Which then means I will have to get another.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh >:( >:( >:(

Can anyone see an alternative option around this. :question :-?

The "loop" in the pic is where the clip has been semi-released to remove the throttle cable. Look in the groove, if there`s no sign of any part of the clip the cable "ball" will release but it`s bloody tight. Have you tried levering with a flat blade screwdriver

If the retaining clip has broken up, there may still be a tail left in the hole which prevents easy removal.

i suggest getting a very thin wire (same size as the hole, preferably) and push through from the front towards the cable at the rear.  That way, you check there is nowt in the hole and so, ball end removal (  :o sounds painfull, Matron...) needs only carefull application of a flat blade screwdriver.   ;)

I did try levering initially, admittidedly not too hard as i did not wish to cause any unnecessary  damage.  Will pay it another visit first thing. :y

Even without the clip the cup can be a sod to get off. Inside the cup is another circlip, which is the bit that does the actual holding of the ball. The clip is belts-and-braces.
Try to lever the cup off square to how it's sits on the throttle.

I was wondering even if successfully removed, is there any chance of it then becoming unsecure and thereby can easily come off if everything is successfull :question
