help please i cant find any guides on how to replace the hand brake cable on my omega !!!!!!! i have run out of adjustment on the cable and the shoes are adjusted correctly yet i am still getting low effort and exsess travel and no reserve helpppp

Look in the maintenance guide..page 4 under servicing rear and parking brakes.

It was written by MarkDTM so you can be sure it will be spot-on....best of luck with it.

Something very wrong there then and it hints that either something is not operating, something is missing (e.g. the return springs) or its not adjusted correctly.

Although cables stretch, they dont stretch that much 

Follw the maintenance guide to the letter as this will easily show if soemthing is missing or faulty.

With both rear wheels removed,can you see if the cable on both sides is moving at all when the hand brake lever is operated ?

Need to find out where.

Is it seized on the joint with the actuator lever (easy to sort) or in the cable sleeve (might also be easyish to sort).

Either way, if teh cable is seized then its not possible to set the system up correctly.

Do check the retrun springs are present on the rear of the backing plates to (again, easy visual check)

Both return springs are there i think its the cable itself. Thats had it i am going to fit a new cable and re adjust the shoes.  Any tips on cable replacement?

Its pretty obvious once you get under there and the heatshields are off, not to hard to do.

My concern is that you said its run out of adjustment on the cable.....that is not a symptom of a seized cable....

Well thats what the guy who was under the car said yesterday not my self.  If i get hold of the end of the cable at the osr wheel with the disk removed. I can hardly move the cable and only the front most shoe moves does this point to a seized actuator in the drum its self?

No, it hints that they are not setup correctly.

My inference of what is a problem (there may be others)

The cable is at maximum adjustment, this tells me that its setup wrong and if thats the case then the rear shoes can not be set correctly. Plus, with it set so tight, you are unlikely to see any movement inti.

It needs the handbrake guide following to the letter, make sure the handbrake cable is very slack, service the brakes, and then the last thing you do, is adjust the cable (this is true of ALL handbrake setups on ALL makes).

During that process, you will soon be able to observe if there is any real cable issues (other than the fact its set wrong)

Grrrrrrrrrrrr what a pita cable was seized solid new one fitted thought i better re check shoes and mechanism now i have the hand brake bit the cable pulls on in two bits and cant work out how it goes back oh and three rear brake pads have fell apart not the shoes but the main pads

yes ,when the disc/drum is on the one you see moving will come up against the drum and then the other one will move as well
