Stuck in Park
« on: 10 March 2011, 14:34:13 »

Went out today and twice, after parking and returning tio the car, it was very difficult indeed to get the shift out of "Park". One I got home, I tried it serveral times and it works fine.

Before this occurred, I was forced (by parked vehicles) to drive over a bit of wind-blown vegetation (mainly thin branches) and I was wondering if something had temporarily jammed the mechanism...

...or is it something more costly? :-/ :-/

faulty brake pedal switch is the usual problem. In the mean time, if you lift the trim from around the selector, you can manually over ride the lock with the yellow lever  ....... all in the manual!  ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D

OK.

Maybe brake pedal switch, then. Easy DIY job?

Does the gear selector "click" when you're in Park and you press the brake pedal with ignition on?

Trying to remember it there is a connection through the gearbox selector switch to the interlock solenoid. Might be that the wiring to the selector switch has been damaged underneath.

Most likely a dodgy brake light switch, though. :y

More awkward than difficult. Getting your head under the steering column is the hard bit.  ;D ;D ;D

Yes, Kevin, it clicks...and it comes out of Park easily again.

Gremlins?  ;)
