2.2dti refusing to start
« on: 09 March 2011, 11:41:04 »

Hi my dreaded diesel is refusing to start, Over the last few days it started running a bit rough, I drained the fuel filter thinking their might be dirt in it but no dirt or water The filter is only a couple of weeks old. Got the car started yesterday it was not running as smooth as normal, took it for a run last night and after about 4 miles engine management light came on and ended up with reduced power. Turned it off let it sit for a while started first time ran great for another 4-5 miles light on again and reduced power, got car home just put in genuine Vx filter wouldnt start . Battery flat now in the warm  waiting for it to charge any ideas would be helpful :-/ :-/

I have had that a few times with the 2.2dti engine. A few things to look out for the first is air in the system even when i had the main stealer do a filter change they still did not do it correct and it took a good flat out run at full power to clear it, another thing is the injector return lines brackdown new kit about £15 with new conectors which can snap easy and the last was a vaccume pipe came off which was the start of of the EML and reduced power (limp home mode). If you charge the battery up and i hope the car was on flat ground when you did the filter or pointing down hill as the fuel will drain back to the tank you will need to bleed the injectors. One last thing if you did the filter top up to tight you may have a hairline crack so check it by using clingfilm over the top to stop any airleak. Hope you get it started soon.

Crank sensor failure on a DTi gives the following symptoms (all of them):-

Engine management lamp
No rev counter
Speedo working
Poor Acceleration

Well folks got the beast started in the end,
all the leakoff  pipes and joints were changed in the last 6 months as well as the injector seals.  The filter head has had all joints coated with grease to stop any air getting in. Took the car for a run engine light on again and power down sat in the drive held revs at 2500 for about 20 seconds light goes off, let it tick over light back on. car in the garage with the battery on slow charge as it took a right hammering, will see what happens in the morning. Thanks for all the replys all taken on board   :y :y
