Passengar Door would not stay closed
« on: 25 February 2011, 23:55:34 »

The passengar door on my car (June 2000, facelift Diesel Auto) recently started to fail to stay closed about 1 time in every 3.  What I mean is that the catch on the door does not always 'grab' the fixed bracket on the pillar.  The fixed bracket has not moved and there is no obvious reason why this has just started to happen, ie no damage etc.
Today though, the door just would not stay closed despite many attempts so I locked the car using the central locking.  The door did then stay closed at the first attempt but now will not unlock at all.  When I select unlock from the keyfob, all the doors unlock correctly, except the passengar door.
The locking tab on the door starts to move up but then immediately moves back to the locked position.  It cannot be pulled up manually from inside the car either.  I had originally thought that the problem may have just been a faulty door catch but now I am wondering if it is a central locking issue.
Any ideas would be appreciated and also how do I actually open the door again.  Disconnect the battery and therefore the central locking?

Had a similar fault on my other halfs astra, it turned out to be the door mech u/s due to a spring busted on it, getting the door open again if as you say it wont unlock might be tricky, perhaps operating the central locking & pulling up on the button might do the trick.

Thanks for your post (sorry for the very late response)
Does anyone know how to open the door given these circumstances?
I have tried removing the Central Locking fuse but the door tab cannot be lifted at all.  I guess I need to remove the door card but I am not sure if that will help because the attachments for the lock are on the edge of the door which I cannot access.
