Safest option is to remove the existing faulty unit from the car.

Put some waterproof tape over the exposed pump to stop dirt/water getting into it.You will still be able to drive the car,but remember you will have NO abs and your power steering will be limited so may have insurance issues so only use if necessary.

Take existing faulty ecu to BBA Reman at the back of Rochester Airport,as I see you live in Kent so not too far away. They will refurbish exiting unit and will take about £110 +vat from you for the pleasure. They will give you a call in about 2 working days to advise it is repaired so you will then need to collect it and refit it.

That way you are sure that it will fit and be compatable with your car..it will have a 12 month warranty and will work so speedo/abs/power steering will all be back to normal.

I think the year and the number of cylinders are more important than the engine size :-/

V6s have traction control but 4 pots don't.

Pre-facelifts have 3 channel ABS, Facelifts have 4 channel.

My understanding is that 3 and 4 channel ECU's are totally different. Not sure about traction control. :-/

The safest way is to get yours repaired (by BBA reman or similar) otherwise I would factor in the cost for The Boy to reconfigure the replacement (probably worth doing anyway to get the latest firmware in gearbox & climate ECUs)

to save having it reprogrammed, same engine size and gearbox.
you'll also need the correct part number - there's more than one ABS ecu - I don't know which pt number is for which car.

the part number only refers to the hardware - even if you get the correct part number, it'll still need reprogramming if it's from a different engined/gearboxed car.

It's better (as acknowledged on here) to have your own unit refurbished.
BBA reman will do this for about £135 - and you get a two year warranty.

BBA did mine in 2009.

As I live about 2 miles away from them removed existing unit and took it to them .They called me 2 days later and I collected it and replaced .

Just found the original receipt and the cost was £110 + vat as I didn,t require any postage.I was sure the yellow sticker they fitted on said it carried a 12 month warranty but may be wrong...anyway it has been fine since then. That would be my advise to you then you have peace of mind it will work without any extra costs for reprogramming etc.
