i'm still tempted to have a good look at this........

I know it needs some work doing....possibly even putting on a jig, but here's my idea....

18,000 miles, it's still a 'young un, get it repaired, gas it, get the goodies on ther i want in order to keep me amused and then use this as my main car, once it is up and running sell the Elite.

I am having a chat with the comapny who are selling it, they are after waaaaaay too much for it and i mentioned that in passing, if it was at £500 then it might be worth a punt, i would then need to find some silver panels and OS suspension and steering.

If it needs to go on a jig then that will push the price up, but i rekon it could still be back on the road for 2K (not including gas), and given its mileage and condition if i put 100K on ot and only got £500 for it when i sell it i would have still got my moneys worth out of it

Not a bad idea. As you say, it's a car with very little wear on it, if genuine. Its' history will cause an issue for re-sale perhaps, but if your plan is to use it that's less of an issue. I think a cat C or D write off is pretty easy to get back on the road. Cat C's are plain BER, cat D's are where the total payout (inc. courtesy cars, etc. etc.) would be greater then the car's value.

Even if it turned out to be impractical to repair, you could use the running gear and break it and sell the rest of the parts.

you have better eyes than me mate, i cant see it.

I am going to call them back and ask about catagory, i will ask them then for more pics of chassis lag and pillar.

Need to see if the chassis leg has been pulled out of shape and by how much

by the time i come to get rid it would still be a good useable car, but it wpould have 100k + on it and what i would get for it would be less than a grand.

If the repair was done properly then how much would it affect the value 10%?

The picture does give the impression that the drivers door is overlapping the b post and does not look to shut properly, but it could be just the way it has been photographed

The impact on the right bent the front of the unibody and caused the left fender to buckle near the passenger A post. (see pic. 2 & 6) That must have been a hell of a shot. I wonder why the airbags didn't go off?

Add the cost of straightening the unibody to the purchase price along with all the parts and paint. Also budget for lots of front tires. Even with the frame straightened on a  jig, the wheel alignment will never be right.

Yep. A second look and that passenger side crease does look suspicious, and with no other damage around it  I'd say it's an indication that it's badly out of shape. :'(

Looks like the FOS A pillar is pushed back and, somehow, the front wheel/strut pushed forward.  The FNS wing crease tends to indicate that the whole front end is pushed over so, to me, will need jigging at the very least to confirm alignment.

Incidentally, if realligned properly and parts replaced as needed, there is absolutely no reason why it would not run square and true after repair.  Just depends how much cash you want to throw at it.....

For £500 you would have a decent low mileage engine, AR35 gear box, 4 decent alloy wheels, MV6 leather seats and a host of goodies. Scrap the rest of the car for upto a couple of hundred quid and you're laughing.

The only problem is, what would you do with the bits in the mean time?
