Ive just been googling and apparantly you can take the rubber pipe off one end and put a screw in the end to blank it off. Is this safe?

Matt
I'm thinking it would be easier to fit a new bit of rubber pipe :-/

Worst case scenario is that you have a blocked catalytic converter and back pressure is forcing its way past the non return valve in one of the stainless steel pipes. Hot exhaust gas will burn through the rubber pipe very quickly.

Alternatively one of the non return valves may be stuck open or the hose may have failed due to age :-/

Being down on power does sound like a blocked cat unfortunately :(

And im guessing a blocked cat is alot of money?

The cats on my last Omega were still fine when it was scrapped at over 200,000 miles.

I think new ones are silly money but you shouldn't have any worries about getting a good second hand pair. Have a look in the For Sale section.

The main problem is that they are worth good money for scrap.

Excuse the impertinence, and irrelevance if I'm being daft...

...but isn't a blockage in an Omega exhaust far more likely to be the horsehair-stuffed rear box than cat(s)?

Just asking & for future reference, but I presume the ones I've seen on flea bay, new aftermarket  for  around £100 a side are to be ignored at all costs ?  :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Hi,

After a few days of reading back threads on here and on another forum im getting the feeling that it might be a split pipe between the SAI and the manifold. Do you think this is likely? If so can i not rip all this piping out and block the whole SAI system from working? Could i rip out the egr aswell?

Would it fail mot like this?

as mentioned, my two penny worth would go with a blocked cat causing the back pressure/low performance leading to the rubber sai pipe burning thro. after market prices are not too mad.

I know the SAI kicks in for the first few mins on starting from cold to put more air into the manifold yes? When i start the car from cold and put my hand down in the area where the SAI is i can feel alot of air , almost a breeze , is that normal? if not is that going to be the problem?

And it feels like its coming from behind this black cover (i thought was cam cover?)

***Update***

Just to update you all i changed the SAI rubber pipe and its fixed it. Its still a little raspy but it is a V6 after all and its nowhere near as loud as before. The previous pipe had a big split in it and a hole at one end. I put the new pipe on (the genuine vauxhall pipe is twice as thick as the original one so i guess someone scrimped on it)  and its no longer raspy. The SAI valve is still very noisy when it first kicks in but no longer the blow.

How would i disable the SAI pump?

the pipe will probaly burn through again, like mine did, only it might take a little longer. the faint rasp might be the start of it.

So to prevent this happening ive got to find the block in the exhaust? If so is there a better way to find out which part without just replacing each part blindly?

I didn't, although I don't think I had a blocked exhaust, the power certainly isn't down! 8-)

I bridged the rubber section with copper, it' been fine ever since, no noise and no heat or anything getting up to SAI pump.

How did you do the copper? Did you just find a piece same diameter and then weld it to it?

I bought a flexi section on trade at BnQ, which was for all intents and purposes was the same diameter, and used compression fittings. My heart sank when after changing the exhaust manifold gasket, all appeared ok, then it started blowing. I was lifted somewhat when I did this!

When i say flexi, I mean flexi to a degree, not floppy
