What shall I do?
« on: 25 January 2008, 21:15:44 »

I have to make a decision as to what I'm doing, car wise.

By the middle of next week, I'm going to have 2 cars.

1) Facelift Saloon, 2.5 manual, LPG, ultra reliable. Love it.
2) Minifacelift Estate, Elite, All the trimmings, 3.0 auto. Also love it (providing it works!)

Bearing in mind, family life for me REALLY commands an Estate car (regularly carry 2 dogs + camping trips, etc...)

Should I

1) Sell the Saloon with LPG, keep the Estate
2) Keep both, pay through the nose
3) Transfer LPG kit to Estate, sell saloon as standard?
4) Sell them both, get a really nice Facelift Estate and LPG it?

Help!!

Just a thought, If you transfer the LPG kit over and the insurance company put a new bumper on the back of the saloon then you won't have to worry about the hole that will be left when you remove the filler.

If you are going to be using the train for work keep the estate, no commuting will save money, enjoy the car at the weekends.

What about a facelift Diesel estate?
Or you could always make the dogs run behind  :D

What type of tank would you ideally want in the estate? Another cylinder or a doughnut in the spare wheel well?

Would you make your money back for the LPG kit on the saloon if sold as a duel fuel car?

 :-/

Really depends how things go with the estate...

TBH, if I had an estate, I think I would want the tank in the wheel well, so I can use all the space  :-/

That's what I thought. Makes removing the kit from the saloon less attractive, because you'd need a new tank anyway.

Same type of valve fitted AFAIK, just a different shape tank.

Personally I'd keep both for the moment and see how it goes. I have a car I use every day and a project parked on the drive (much to the her in doors displeasure as her car is parked in the road!). Don't rush the decision and end up regreting it!

You waited a long time for a facelift so I think you'll miss it when / if you sell it.

Based on that, if I was you I would sort out the estate then sell them both on and get yourself a facelift estate.

Sorry if that's confused things even more.

As far as I know an LPG tank for the spare wheel bay just need a couple of holes in the floor, missing the petrol tank of course. Shame we're not closer, I have a spare horiz donughnut tank you could borrow for trials.

Also re which car to keep, how about waiting until you see how its going. Suppose its the block thats warped, so the engine needs a reface or replacement. Remember that facelift omega with good engine but stuffed back end, you could get a good engine, box and wiring for a reasonable price, and possibly less work than the rebuild on an engine that may spring unwanted surprises.

Life's full of fun!
