Bad touch up job
« on: 17 April 2011, 22:39:10 »

Evening peeps
Just wondering if anyone can suggest a product or way of getting a bad touch up paint job off.
Just purchased an MV6 estate and the driver rear panel looks like a bird has shat on it, it is that badder job.  Wouldn't mind but the scratch itself would be nearly missed if not looking.
Cheers

If it is touch up paint that has been plastered on top of the scratch you can take it off with fine wet and dry paper, 1200 grade, and then T cut the surface to bring back the shine. You have to be careful not to cut through the lacquer topcoat. If it on a flat panel use the paper on a small block of wood with rounded edges rather than with your fingers then you are less likely to create grooves in the paint.  :y

Agreed,although after the 1200 grade I would gradually reduce the level of abrasive - 1200/1500/2000/rubbing compound/polish. :y
I have an mx5 to do this to in the near future - on every panel. :o ::) ;D

I did this on my 02 Elite. The guy I bought it off, a genuine bloke, complained that the correct colour touch up paint bought from the VX stealer was a lousy match and apologised for the half dozen 'blobs' of paint - not his fault I said. When I carefully rubbed them down with 1200 grade, in most cases there wasn't any stone chip or mark underneath.  :o :o :o

He should have gone to Specsavers, but I was a happy bunny! ;D

Cheers guys
Will try the paper and get it sorted.
This guy must have been thinking he was painting an outside wall for the mess he has made of it.

if whats under the shite paint job is the original two pack you can use a rag with neat cellulose thinners on to wipe away the new paint on top unless its been done in two pack as well then thinners won't touch it,if you try this do a little area at a time and make sure it does'nt attack whats underneath. If the repair is acrylic aerosol then thinners will easily wipe it off. :y
