2.2 throttle body
« on: 14 April 2011, 21:15:52 »

Hi all,

In an attempt to rid my car of the P1555 code I posted earlier, I plan to replace the throttle body.  I would like some advice regarding fitting the new part, not the physical fitment but the electronic side.  I have read that when replacement is fitted, to switch the ignition on for 10 seconds before starting the car so that the engine management can learn the new values of the switch.  Does any one know if the values of the old switch get automatically over-written or do they need to be deleted using software?  If any one has done this replacement I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks

P1555   Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Load Signal not Plausible with Engine Load

Have you checked the Pedal Position Sensor is securely fastened & operating correctly (i.e. not sticking) & the multiplug is firmly pushed home? It must be worthwhile checking here first as it may turn out there is nothing wrong with the Throttle Body at all! :-/

This is what TIS says about Throttle Body replacement:

Install

Attach throttle body to intake manifold with new gasket – tightening torque 9 Nm / 7 lbf. ft.

Attach crankcase ventilation hose and vacuum hose for tank vent valve to throttle body.

Attach coolant hoses to throttle body.

Attach wiring harness plug to throttle body.

Attach air intake hose to throttle body and air cleaner housing.

Attach crankcase ventilation hose to cylinder head cover.

Attach wiring harness plug to hot film mass air flowmeter.

Connect ground cable to battery.

Note:  For engines with throttle valve module (electronic accelerator pedal) it is necessary after replacing the throttle valve module (electronic accelerator pedal) to reprogram it. To do this, switch on the ignition and wait for a minimum period of 10 seconds. During the waiting period, the engine must not be started because this will interrupt the programming operation.

I checked the wiring and switch at the pedal today and all is OK.  I have managed to get a nearly new throttle body from a write-off car for £30 and I will fit it at the weekend.

Hi tunnie, I am in Chatham, Kent.

UP Date,

I attached the new throttle body, reconnected the battery, turned ignition on for 10 seconds then started the car.  It initially started but would not respond to the pedal and just kept at idle speed.  A new error message said that the new throttle values had not been learnt. I disconnected the battery and tried once again but leaving the ignition switched on for 30 seconds before starting and this time it was successful.  I have been driving the car for 3 days now with no reported errors, where before I would get an error every time I drove the car.

Thank you for your advice and hope this may help any owners who may need to change the throttle body.
