Hot air blowing on the back of the engine.
« on: 23 April 2011, 14:54:40 »

The car: Omega 2.2 Z22XE (petrol +lpg) 2001

I find out that there is hot air leak on the back of the engine between the egr and the engine. It looks like that hot air comes from the engine more that the egr. My manifold has just been fixed. Head gasket has been replaced 2-3 months ago because of the oil leak. The oil is not leaking anymore.

The issue is that the car hasn't pass MOT on the emission test.

Since then  I found out that that there was a hole in one of the breather pipe. The top plastic bit of MAF sensor was unglued.(Again air leak). Manifold and exhaust were leaking.

The car has lost power but it seems it's better now after these things have been fixed. :D

I am worrying about that air leak and also once you press the accel. pedal you hear the air whistle.
The car is not that powerful and it's struggling when driving up to hills but it's not very bad!

I have already spent lots of many on this MOT! I have to pay again for the MOT and I want to be sure it will pass this time. This is the 3rd week I am struggling with this car since first MOT test

Do you know guys what it can be on the back of the engine?

Any advice is welcome :)

Thank in advance.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

I assume that because the hole in the breather pipe some gasket might start blowing.

I recall there being a casting attached to the end of the head which is the duct for the exhaust feed to the EGR valve. This has a gasket between it and the head so could be leaking hot exhaust gasses. I would expect it to be noisy if it was though.

Thx.

I have got that issue with this gasket between the engine block and the egr.

What is the best way of doing it?

What is the gasket part number?

Sorry guys but i have no idea what is the name of it.

Any chance that I can use some kind of glue.

Thanks in advance. :D
