      Have a few questions for you.
      51 plate 2001 2.6 y26se estate auto.
      Since the rear silencer started chucking out wadding she is being a cow to start when warm/hot.Is this connected?
      Drove around yesterday stop/starting fine then last port of call Bedford, park in multi storey, bit of shopping for a couple of hours and wouldn't start. Turning over fine and me thinks immobiliser.So keep trying locking /unlocking turning her over and then finally after an hour, 1 last try with foot to the floor and hanging on the starter she fired up, drove home with no problems. Started fine this morning as usual, trip to the garage and £30 lighter wont start on the pumps.Kept trying with different throttle positions to no avail.Rolled it back off the pumps and phoned the wife. Tried it again and she started.Doing my head in now,is this all because the backbox has gone, any ideas? Also, how can I find if a gearbox upgrade is required?

You`ll probably get an 0335....crank sensor

First  of all the crank sensor will prob show up on the pedal trick, ie code 19, then get the back box replaced as that will have a hell of an effect on the cars performance, might even cause some of the starting issues as it will not be able to get rid of the zorst gasses.

id lay money on crank sensor common if it dont around 70 thousand or over

normaly wont start when warm half hour later when it cools down it will start

Blocked silencer wont help things, but if it has blown the wadding out the back it shouldnt be restricting it now, so shouldnt cause a problem imo.

I suspect still a ton of wadding in there, so the baxbox will need replacing immediately (externalcar do a reasonable (cheap) exhaust system for £130 delivered for all 3 sections).

But don't think the exhaust is the problem here, given that it appears to run OK once started.

It may be coincidence but I've been blowing wadding out of mine for a couple of weeks and have a similar issue starting when warm. It has always started but needs a longer on the starter motor to fire.

Will be getting my back box done soon and also replacing cats (cheers albs!) as one blowing and have 0420 and 0430 codes.

Don't have crank sensor code, just checked.

Ok, thanks for all the replies. Just been out and read the fault codes.
 1700, 0335 and 0100  I think this confirms crank sensor , not sure what the 1700 is though.

and what is the difference between rect and oval plugs, is it just vehicle model or age differences

They changed the plug shape from square/rectangular ones on earlier models to oval shape from mini facelift models onwards
