Engine, gearbox and ABS are all constantly nattering to each other.  Bit like a ladiy's coffee morning, if you like ;D

The gearbox code signifies that its received rubbish, which is quite normal when one of the other 'coffee morning' attendees is busy more interested in error routines due to duff sensor info.

Fix the obvious fault, clear them, see what comes back ;)

Just to illustrate further, I get occassional cam sensor codes (P0340) and whenever I get one I also usually get P1781 as well.  I'm pretty sure the latter is caused by the former.

(And I must get round to replacing the cam sensor.  I've just PM'd andyc for a price).

Jim.

just paid for a new maf meter , will recheck codes again when fitted and go from there.
i am more concerned about 1st and 2nd slipping having to pull off in snow mode now ,don't like the idea of replacing the gearbox .

the story of my 2.2 when i had it,bought it with car in limp mode and could only set off in snow mode when cold but had reverse.checked levels and all the usual diagnostics eventually went to an autobox garage and told box is knackered(p0100 constantly coming up)sourced 2nd hand box and i had every gear but could only use them if i drove it manually, cleaned switch and checked all electricasl connections but still showing p0100 among a couple more,i eventually looked into the maf and found a site saying what it did and in an automatic gearbox it helps to tell the box when to change gear so new maf and hey presto one lovely smooth auto box.it works out the previous owner carried on driving it in limp mode and knackered the box and tbh it sounds to me like you need a new box but if any consolation there a piece of pi@@ to fit
