JamesV6 will post some photos when we can, (my mrs has gone off to a management conference with our camera.,... ) but jeeeezus....
the reputed virtual indestructibility of the V6 head gasket has taken a bit of a knock....
he took the immediate "known issue" one ( passenger side) off, and it was SOO shagged he thought he'd check the other one... and was glad he did...
guys, i have , quite seriously, seen tea bags with fewer perforations.
utterly utterly FUBAR'ed is merely the beginning.....
no bloody wonder the thing was unhappy....
it should be about another 3-4 hours work tomorrow and the old Elite will be a nice smooth running baby again,
meanwhile , I was thinking the two of us might have to change our forum names to something like "Tweedledum and Tweedledee" or "Jake and Elwood": coz my new Elite is virtually identical..... , pretty much indistinguishable apart from the reg plate.
and yes, the new baby is here, Drove it back from Sheffield today.... it behaves impeccably, my only slight wrinkle is thinking the brakes aren't quite as pin sharp and nice as on the old one... but then the old one had all new genuine Vx discs and pads a few months ago....
the service history IS full, comprehensive and detailed , and includes all bills and receipts to match what's stamped in the book, and more besides..... it's not due a cam belt or water pump either....
So jobs for Telford are a bit thin on the ground for me, aside from perhaps changing the pads (and maybe discs?) and bleeding the brakes, but I'd come along just to cook anyway ! I've been missing (head stuck in work) for too long !
oh and has anyone got a load net they don't want, or would sell me?? There's one in the old car, but James will want that (for dogs, till he finds a proper dog cage-bar thingy) .
the new car has the later revised load cover, but the load/dog net is missing.
