Error code 19, Omega V6 -99 won't start
« on: 21 May 2011, 19:49:38 »

The title says it all but here is the long version:

For  about 3-4 weeks the car, a Omega 2.5 V6 -99 preface lift, just didn't start.
After a couple of days, without anything changed, check or tried I did try to start it again and it started right away.
A week passed then it did the same again, meaning it didn't start again. Since then, it haven't started again.

First of all I thought it was the fuel pump since the fuel hose at the motor didn't hold any fuel when I unscrewed it.
After removing the fuel pump I tried to run it to an jump starter which made it run like it was supposed to.
Then I check the fuel pump relay and it doesn't close. But when i force the tongue of it to close the pump starts working.
I check the voltage to the pump which always gives 9 volts [should it not be 12?].
After that I checked the OBD-II contact [does my Omega have OBD 2 or GM's homemade OBD 1.5?, checked wiki for that] with the paper clip-method and it gives the code 19 which is the crank sensor.

My real question is:
Can a busted crank sensor make this havoc?
Can anything else be wrong?
Any advice is worth taking into consideration!

And to answer the questions... Yes, a crank sensor will cause all those problems/symptoms :y :y

Genuine Vx is recommended but you need to check what plug/part number as there are a few ;) Oh... And the EPC has some errors on the 99 model year so don't just let the dealer order the one he thinks, check the Plug/part number :y :y

Lovely, thanks for the fast responds!
I am not sure I understand what you are saying.
I checked both the British and the German eBay and found some dealers selling crankshaft sensors for about £40 for Omega V6, I assume that all Omegas with V6 has the same sensor.
I just link a site to get your opinion:

http://cgi.ebay.de/KURBELWELLENSENSOR-SENSOR-OPEL-OMEGA-B-2-5-3-2-V6-NEU-/300551732085?pt=Autoteile_Zubeh%C3%B6r&hash=item45fa477b75

To bad I can't get the part in time for the survey of the car.
Its on Thursday, I think it will be rescheduled  ;)

Sorry Java, didn't spot that you weren't in UK :-[ ::)

You're welcome to try that but you need to be sure it's a Genuine Bosch part as a minimum, if not from an Opel dealer :y

Think you want (GM) Part Number 90540743 but you need to confirm. There were a couple of different plug shapes :y

[edit]Didn't spot it was a 2.5 :-[ :-[

Choice of 2... Should be: 90492061 (2.5 Later Models) but might be: 90492006 (2.5 Earlier Models)

Part Numbers taken from Trade Club Book ;) ;)[/edit]

best thing to do is check your crank sensor plug
there are 3 different types
oblong plug
oblong plug with rounded corners
oblong plug with rounded corners and recessed pins

So later models is considered from -99 preface lift?
I found the item 90492061, this won't work then?

This is why you need to check the part number/plug.

Part Number should be stamped on it and just about legible with a torch & mirror from underneath ;)
