i need to replace my tools which were stolen. so what are your thoughts on
facom /britool s.p
snap on
sealey
halfords
              Darren
         (or a brand i haven't listed)

If I may put my 2 pence woth in, I have always sworn by Britool, reasonable quality an reasonable price and for the average person will last a lifetime. I no they are owned by Facom.
I personally would avoid Snap On as they are so expensive the average person can't justify the expense.
Sorry but I have no experience of the other makes you suggest.

I have sealey,britool and halfords tools and I find they are all good ....... I think snap on are very expensive for what they sell although they do guarentee for life.

when i worked in the garage i used to buy snap on, purely because they had a lifetime warranty and could take a real beating (we are going back to the 80's mind you)
Recently i treated myself to a new toolkit, i bought a halford professional set, and i have got to say it is really good value and comes with a cracking warranty (i haven't had to use it yet)

Halfords used to do a lifetime warranty thing ... don't know if it still applies but you could take a broken tool in and they would change it.

As I haven't broken anything for quite a while I have no idea if the system still exists !!  

They also do quite a good socket set that is often on offer  .. as it is now ..

Teng are worth a look as well. Halfords socket set has taken the brunt of any beatings keeping the Teng set as the "good" set and to date (20 years on) the only problem has been a screw lost from a ratchet handle.

I agree the Halfords pro stuff is pretty good on the whole and readily available to purchase when you need it - which is why a lot of my tools are from that range.

I've got a CK "Sure drive" 1/2" drive socket set for the heavier work and that's been fantastic too. A little bit chunky in some respects but very solid.

It all depends what you need though. It you're only tackling occasional, simple jobs you won't appreciate the benefit of snap-on stuff. If it's getting daily use on challenging jobs you might, although I'm not sure I'd pay their prices even then...

i got a halfords 150 piece socket set a couple of years ago(about a hundred quid )and its been great.it might not be up to workshop use (all day every day)but for the home mechanic i couldnt fault it.

just had a phone call snap on spanners mm/af   britool 3/8 drive socket set are on their way to me .The rest to discussed if i agree to replacements.
as any one heard of Elora 1/2 drive socket set

I've had a couple of Elora sockets, IIRC. Bought them for something that was a challenge to undo, IIRC, and didn't manage to break them.

I have some which are around 25years old and still going strong. I have lots of snap on stuff too but for value for money it has to be Britool every time

ive done a bit of poking around and they have some thing to do with draper cant see how ive never heard of them (25 years you say)
The set they want to send me is a 58pc set Ithink i might have to accept that .All i have to do now is to remember how to use them all {lol}

I have the Halfords 150 piece socket set and, on the whole, I am happy with it.  This only slight gripe is that the sockets are not as deep as my previous set, which was a Stanley.  This served me well for a good number of years - I purchased it when I was still at school.  That being said, it is the Halfords one that I always use now....
