Aux water Pump
« on: 12 July 2011, 08:34:37 »

Hi all
How can i check if the aux pump under the Water bottle is working ok. Is it temp controled and does it only work in winter time as mine does not seem to work
If i switch off engine and press the auto button ot the panel i can hear a buzz from there then a click in the fuse box near battery then nothing, are they important
I would like it running if poss as it must have been put on for a reason
TIA

My understanding is that pump is part of the system that gives cabin heat when the engine is shutdown.

For it to function the engine needs to up to temperature and the the cabin temperature less than the display setting.

Pressing auto then starts the fan and pump and the temperature display lights. On mine, anyway.

Yes mike mine does same fan runs with ign off if you press Auto but even in the wintertime it only as heat for about 2 mins then its cold it looks like the pump is not running but i wondered if it served another purpose. i.e.  getting the heater up to max quickly for heat in cabin

Most people consider it to be a waste of time and take it off and bin it. ;)

It does help the cabin to warm up faster in winter.
If you remove the pump (pull out of rubber or unbolt bracket) then undo the 4 screws fastening the pump cover and the remove the impeller you will find a rotating magnet.
Clean out any rust deposits completely as this causes the impeller to stick to the outer sleeve.

think it's on all the time the engine's on - it's what pushes coolant through the heater

If fitted it probably is ;) ;)

I ripped it out to make room for the LPG stuff with no ill effects to the heating system (as have a few others ;):y

Which reminds me... Must get a Tech 2 session at some point to tell the climate it's not fitted any more ::) ::)
