Personally I think you're a bl**dy idiot!

You have, in Max's car, a fundamentally sound car, wth a known good engine (noisy lifter can be sorted easily enough with all the toys and it is an estate.

It is also very cheap for what it is.
If it lasts you a year and then things become more of a concern, fine, but it will be your day to day car that you can rely on as you know it is good.

You also have a nice facelft with LPG conversion that is capable of realsing some much needed profit meaning you have actually done all this for a reason.

Use that profit to buy another car by all means, but at least you will be working with real cash, and not funding it another way.

Don't go buying another car at this point.

Only concern is that if it's not localised to one lifter, it could be a blocked oil pump etc  :-X

Stop looking at the worst case scenario to try and justify your argument. ;)

Reality is, as you said, the oil was not good.
Do 3 or 4 VERY short changes with proper semi synth and see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

You can also drop the sump and clean the bottom end for good measure.

As the wise one says, work in a methodical manner in order to find the solution to a problem. :)

Ok ok, It has some very fresh oil, so I will drive it to Cardiff and Back tonight (150 miles) and then report on what happens :y

You know what I'm like, worst case scenario is that I'll change the lifters on Monday and have a smile on my face again!  ;)

Were the lifters quiet when they were in the donor engine?

I'd give them a little while to settle down then. I can't believe running it for a little while on dirty oil was enough to clog them up. Most likely they are still working air out of them and you've introduced a bit more air by replacing the oil filter.

Either that or the engine has terminally low oil pressure, in which case cleaning the lifters won't help.

Back to the important stuff....

facelift is a lot better in many ways... down to personal preferance really. But the facelift is more refined.

Totally. Prefacelift, whilst nice, just doesn't cut it after a facelift model
Absolutely! The facelift is a slicker machine in all respects!!! A great, classy looking motor and drives more like a modern car.

The preface to me looks a bit old hat now. Coupled with the fact there aren't many well looked after examples left. Reminds me of of an old carlton or cavalier! ;D Though, i suppose this is what makes the world go round!  :y

I suspect the Blown HG had something to do with the state of the oil James....  it was flushed and changed about 4500-5000 miles ago, with vauxhall semi.. all filters etc...  and was going to get a change of oil and all filters again in with the "fix" had the garage not found it to be the HG and quoted the cost of another car as the price to fix it./..    I have had it changed every 5 to 6K religiously, ever since I bought the damn thing... granted it was due a change...  but i really didn't expect it to be that bad ..... (given that i wasn't aware of the HG failure at the time...   hindsight however......  usually 20/20 aint it... )

as to changing cars, it's your baby now... do whatever you wish, I wouldn't be the slightest bit offended (unless you do a Jeremy Clarkson with a swimming pool....)

as to Facelift / Pre face lift...

the Mini facelift is definitely the prettiest Omega generation IMHO...

I'm an old fashioned guy at heart, and all the slab sided bits of interior plastic in the facelift suck.,.. and that overweight "pregnant" front bumper/grille on the facelift is horrendous....

it'sa shame , as from the rear,/rear threee-quarter view.. the facelift MV6 in silver is one of the nicest things around.... till you walk round the front.....

OT for a sec, the neighbours would like their parking space back mate ;)
I currently have no plans for the weekend (just some tinkering with bits and bobs in the studio) that cannot be moved about   a bit to accommodate picking you up from the station, or running you around to various spots to arrange your omega collection as suits you best...   :D

(i've worked flat out all week, so the weekend is "ME" time, kids allowing of course)

Wash and polish the elite......   it looks stunning!   might make you feel more fond of it , it does me, every time I do it !

I'd still almost be tempted to buy it back.... (remember my "an elite for each day of the week"  dream ;)  )  if Chrissy wouldn't throw a fit and kill me for it.....  she's sulking about the money for the patio and easter break being blown on another car as it is....

meaning i'll have to work even bloody harder now !

I do like the car max. I really do. I'm just having a "disheartened" moment because I've got a noisy lifter ;D

Is between 3-4pm OK today to pick up the CDX? :)
