can anyone tell me why my 2.5 v6 elite gets to hot when towing a caravan no trouble before i went 60 miles then got to hot and when i took van of it was ok again even got stuck in traffic and it didnt get hot

Only difference when towing is the load on the gearbox, the fluid from the box goes through oil cooler on the rad.

Can't see how that should affect engine temp though.

Whats the coolant like? Any oil in it?

Did it over-heat before this work was done? (and before the oil cooler failed)

Sounds like the oil cooler would have failed much earlier, and a coolant flush was done to hide the symptoms.

That suggests its been driven a lot with a failed oil cooler, i bet the rad is bunged up with oil!
