Hi Everybody,
Can anyone help please, on the way home from work yesterday my turbo blew, I now know where to find the part number of the one fitted (GT18V - I think?). Is the the only one that fits as I have also seen a 'GT19V' advertised ?

how many miles has your car done?
ive seen reconditioned ones from latvia on ebay but they are pricey and couldnt guaruntee the quality either

in romania to recondition a turbine.. but the case must be intact.. its 200 pounds

The car has 131k miles on the clock and the turbo has been playing up for a while, had it limp home once before and they adjusted the Air Flow Meter but it was sluggish ever since.
I've picked up a used turbo that look very clean off the net and I'm going to attempt to fit it this weekend.
If anyone has any advice on the pit falls I'm likely to come across, please let me know.
As this isnt covered in the manual either, if anyone has the instructions to hand, please send me a copy if poss.

adjusting the air flow meter? on a car that aint got one? these have maf dont they, would ove to now how to do that!!!

Probably a very stupid question, but...

What makes you beleive that you have blown your turbo???

Now changed the turbo, was deffinately blown as the spindle had broken and the bearing had collapsed. Found a lot of oil in the pipe to the intercooler.
The more I look at this I think when the limp home was fixed some time ago they may have ttok me for a ride but whatever they did worked till now.
I keep getting the engine light coming on now but she still runs but very sluggish. Had a code reader on it last night and even though the light was on, no codes were logged. Cleared the light but still comes on and off as i'm driving. car was gutless before but even worse now.

I have had this problem in the past.

Not the Turbo fault thank goodness. But the light coming on and off with poor power.

Check all the connections on the small plastic vac pipes that run all over the place, they go to EGR valves the HBV and if one of these come off or the rubber elbow is split, it puts it in limp mode.

Strange thing is on my old 2 ltr Omega Dti it used to effect the ventilation dampers inside the car as well. Not noticed that on the 2.2. But it does seriosly effect the power.

Thanks Boiler Man, Deffenately going to take a much closer look at the vac pipes, my brother was giving me a hand with the turbo and was disconnecting all sorts while i weren't looking, keep you posted.

Yep.
It has happened to me plenty of times, in particular after a mechanic or garage has been doing work on the engine bay. They are very easily dislodged.

The last time it happened I searched and searched. In the end I spotted that a pipe had come off completly and tucked itself around the back of the fitting, so it looked okay visually.

So give them a wiggle.

Another time a garage was telling me that I need a new turbo About £600 

I eventually found that one of the vac pipes that goes right around the back of the engine, very close to the bulk head had a rubber fitting that had split. You could only see it with a mirror.

Went to Vx Dealer, purchased a new rubber fitting 60 pence 

Instant improvement.
