heater not working!!
« on: 21 July 2011, 19:52:09 »

Hi there i have a year 2000 Omega 2 litre estate, lpg/petrol machine. I have recently bought this machine. However when i bought it i didnt know it had a blown head gasket. Also the heater was not working. I took it into Vauxhall to get the heater fixed and they found the bust gasket!! So i had to have the thing repaired. New head gasket etc. However the garage did tell me they couldnt get the water pump off due to a sheared bolt. However they did say that the water pump looked new in any event. The engine is now running fine....however the heater still doesnt work. So i took the car back to my local Vauxhall dealer and asked them to fix the bust heater. They put a new by pass valve on it.......that didnt work....so then they blew out the heater matrix and that didnt work!!! After that they said they didnt know what to do......!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone got any ideas? The heater is definately not working....or at least i cannot get heat out of the thing.....

thanks for your time and consideration

Mike

Try pulling the vacuum hose off the heater bypass valve, then plug the hose with a screw or something.
See if you then get heat.

The way the bypass valve works is that only when there isn't suction on this vac pipe, does it let coolant flow through the matrix.  There is a solenoid valve somewhere behind the glovebox that controls the connection/otherwise of this vac hose to a source of vacuum, according to dash control settings, and this solenoid has been known to fail.
