What colour is my car?
« on: 03 August 2011, 14:26:40 »

Ok I know this seems a really silly question but what colour IS my car?

It says on the logbook its silver, the vin numbers match etc but to my eyes its a sort of metallic light blue.

I havelooked in the engine bay etc and there is no signs of a respray unless they shelled it.

Is there a specific shade of blue that falls under the titlle of silver?

Have a look on the drivers door (B) pillar. There should be a plate which has details of the colour code on there. For example - early silver cars - z147,later silver cars - z157..... :y

Star silver 2 and star silver 3...... :y

I'm not sure of the code for star silver 1. Or even if there is a star silver 1.

You can get the official aesthete's wrist colour name from the list of Omega paint codes in the OOF FAQ:

Hmmm code is Z293 which signifys premium blue so how come the V5 states silver?

I did a car check via text and it did say the car had had a colour change but it clearly hasnt? hmmmm

I have emailed vauxhall direct to ask what colour the car came of the tracks. Maybe someone was going to change colour but didnt?

Probably because V5s are complete elasticated pants.

I know somebody who works for the car finance part a well known bank.  She says the V5 frequently shows the wrong model or engine size, never mind trifling details like the colour.

It causes no end of problems, often leading to finance being declined.  They aren't supposed to tell the car dealer why a particular deal has been declined (confidentiality etc) but they drop the broadest hints possible that the dealer just needs to make the finance application match the V5 rather than the actual car.  But of course the dealers are generally so thick they don't cotton on and the customer loses out through no fault of their own.

I should perhaps add that AFAIK the details on the V5 are as supplied to the DVLA by the dealer originally selling the car.

So we are asking whether a car dealer can tell pale blue from silver after lunch on a Friday.  Possibly not.

Didn't realise I had such a grudge against car dealers - 7, 8, 9, 10 and breathe...    Nurse! - I think I need some more of those pills!

Hey Halfords have star silver(1) listed as well as 2 and 3 so it must exist  ;D  I think it was possibly used on the Omega A/Carlton but don't quote me on that

When I recently MOT'd SWMBO's car Mr MOT Man came back through looking confused.  :-? It says that this car should be silver.

Originally the colour of a Smart was based on the 'Tridion' because the other panels are just boted on. They changed due to the confusion it caused.  :y

Slightly OT - sorry.

Halfords didn't want to sell me a spray can of black paint.  They said to go to the dealer, who would be able to provide me with a can of suitable aged/faded paint to compensate for the fact that the car (and its original paint) is 12 years old.

Were they having me on, or is this really true?

I only want it to cover up a few bits of rust...

Sounds like cobblers to me.If you go to a good refinishing factors ( I use gramic supplies in colchester) they should bring their colour cards out to your car and hopefully find a close match. :y
